Well, I suspect that we have known for years that discussion in Board Rooms, would be along these lines..

Queensland electricity network operator Energex has conceded that its century-old business model is under threat from the increased use of rooftop solar, and a growing interest among its 1.3 million consumers to produce and manage their own energy needs.

The really interesting question will be what will the "Regulators" do, when more and more folk realise that Off-Grid is a viable alternative..

They knew that this was coming but still sat on ther hands anyway, instead of getting smart about it and buying into the model. How dumb can you be, the writing was on the wall for QLD at least 2-3 years ago.

Maybe not full off-grid, certainly intelligent Grid-hybrid though, maybe later if the roof space is available to full off-grid. Look at at what has happenned in Spain now thats ugly.

If any Government of the day tried that here that be the easiest election promise for the opposition to win on by a landslide in history. The penalties for rooftop solar in increased charges is bad enough, but the bit leaving panels on the roof and being fined for them not being connected to the grid is just crazy  . I suspect the current government will not survive the next election, one way or another I reckon there gone, what an easy policy to run on.

Back to QLD, fortunately for them ATM the cost of doing properly is holding the tide back at the moment lucky for them.
We are not far from being able to do it with and provide loan facitlites and still make it viable to go that route or dynamic load shifting as an option as well because the size of the battery is considerably reduced under this senario.

V7 of the Firmware in the SP-pro range is very cool I've able to develop some really good dynamic load profiles that will certainly some of the costs making it more affordable to implement truly intelligent load managment. Now thats what I call 8-) .
