I was cleaning out some old paperwork and came across the contract for my electricity from EA for 12/2005.
Compare those rates to my current rates on that meter position. Note the current bill has an increase in the billing period which is normal now !
old rates; first 1750Kwhr 11.64. balance 13.56. off peak 2, - 7.8 . service charge 35.2 /day
new rates; peak-----------59.20. shoulder 26.9 . off peak -- 16.43. supply charge 1.04 /day

So IMHO these rises are greater than the usual sanitised figures we are given. This is only 12 years ago.
I guess a good incentive to get the panels on the roof and a battery in the shed !

Jaahn, that's interesting.. old Service charge $35.2 / day
new SUPPLY CHARGE... $1.04/ day
I take it there should be a $ sign in front of the 35.2 and1.04 on the bills.
I thought that was a recent new introduction to discourage people from moving off grid, snd still be connected,
just in case!

A mistake there and past time to edit the post. Set in stone now
The prices were all supposed to be in cents of course.
So old service charge 35.2 c/day
new supply charge ---- 104 c/day.

Paradoxically, the less the federal government does about energy planning, the more people are going to install their own systems. CSIRO put out a report a few months back suggesting that without planning there would be a higher percentage of our power produced by renewable in ten years [could have the time span wrong but it was medium term] than there would be if the exit from fossil fuels had guidance and certainty. I didn't see the report, only picked up a short news summary but presumably, the more anarchic the situation gets, the more expensive the power gets, the more incentive there is to get off the grid.
