Researchers from Imperial College London are developing a prototype carbon fibre material that can act as a battery and is strong and lightweight enough to be used for car components.

Great if it can be done, but they'd have to be very very careful regarding which part of the car that they built it into and how well it could be isolated in an impact. With an ordinary electric car, the batteries are always physically separate from the car's structure.
