Just how much of you house can run of batteries

Postby Icarus » Sun Oct 28, 2018 8:53 pm

Hi ,
I have 5 Kw facing west and would like to put 3 kw on the east plus some battery storage .
I am just wondering if you run your whole house , ie lights , fridge , TV , stove etc like normal or do you need dedicated circuits .
Also is it worth cost wise setting the system up to work in blackouts given it may happen once a year .

See my signature just below ............... run not only our house but the one next door as well on our system and have done since mid 2010.

Due to ramp up the solar in the new year and add a decent bunch more onto the systems.

Love solar 8-) , the power companies can go take a long walk off someplace.

I've been running off-grid with solar, wind (some of the time) and batteries since 1991. House is wired the same as for grid connected.

So it is just amatter of plugging the battery into the house grid . I suppose its not much different to using your solar rather than feed it to the grid .

... plugging the battery into the house grid

Not exactly, a battery inverter runs the house on 230VAC, it doesn't run on DC from the battery.
