My advice is to double on PVs and half spend on battery bank..today can get PVs at 80cents per watt. with battery storage at 5 watt hours per $1 @ 100 hour rate.

I have 28.8 kWh battery bank (14.4kWh usable) good for 3000 cycles @ 50% DOD.
with having 4.5kW of PV array and only plan 6kWh (60% day 40% nite) energy use per day..im only discharging 20% DOD each day..will be good for 7000 cycles good for 12 years plus life, with battery capital cost of $4k..thats a running cost of 12 cents per kWh..in todays money..who knows in 10 years how cheap will battery technology be (LiFePo4).
3.04kW Grid Tie system 16 of 190W PVs, Samil 3.3kW
3.8kW PV Stand Alone Off Grid.. 5-8kWHr Per day

8 of 6V 600 AH flooded cells (24 volt 1200 AH)

Good morning,
I have a Power Star W7 inverter, I model PS5024E , 24 DC volts exit 220 AC volts , 5 kw. Are so kind by lists me the components for its reduction of consumptions? The toroidal transformer must an after 17+17 exits 240 AC or 17+17+17+17 volts exit 240 volts after 6000 VA, or am better 2 toroidal by 3000 va. Thank in advance who can me help.

I think you will have to closely read what Andrew has done... work out what he did... and then copy...

I am technically inclined and I would be hesitant (partly as I just don't have the time)

It's a big job, and an expensive one... You could find a second hand quality one for the cost of the upgrade.

IMHO

PS - ANDREW is the ONLY one likely to give good advice as HE alone has done the mod.. We would be just speculating... So, If Andrew does not pop in to help, then I would be very cautious..

Seconded on this comment.

I did do the same MOD using exactly the same style of unit 48Vdc 6kW, I would not be doing it again.
I did double the size by using 2 x 3kVa Transformers, AFTER I had a chat with him on the phone and with help worked out the differences required, still was headache with supplier of the transformers and filters.
3 months for them being shipped.

It is not a job for the faint hearted and I would not do it readily again. You REALLY need to do what he has done EXACTLY. No pictures I don't have any, it's far away in the bush in use for another task I wanted it for. Got to say though it does work a treat. It has some limits I find irritating, if there was a next time I would spend the extra money and get a real one. It was a fun job and it took me, from start to finsh a few months to do.

I have to say a big thanks to Andrew, for the post and the chat I had with him, it was a good learning excerise.

Warning if you don't have technical ability DON'T even try to do it.

I have not had any personally; it is an HF inverter the ebay feedback rating is pretty hard to beat.
However the seller is in Taiwan,

so if it breaks or when it breaks
1. how do I get it fixed?
2. how long will it take to get fixed?
3. do I just throw it away and get another one?
4. even when it is in warranty how much will shipping cost both ways?
5. australian standards?

Those would the questions in my mind.
Not dumping on the product but they are questions worth thinking about.

Well at the price you could buy 3 of them and still be in front. I know it is not the rolls royce of inverters but there efficiency claims are reasonable. I contacted them about the quoted efficiency and they guarantee it as a true figure. They weight difference is due to no transformer.

What I was asking about is feedback from actual owners.

Wow - good on you David...
So that shows that it IS re-producable, and hence predictable... ( as we would have hoped )

What would you say was the real conversion cost, (excluding Labor) was.. :?:
