Can AGM go from 98%SoC to True 100% on Float charge?

Postby Jman » Tue Dec 18, 2018 6:12 pm

After learning two things: 1- Most if not all chargers go into float too early. 2-AGM's need to get back to 100% as much as possible or quite regularly.

Say if my AC charger goes into float at 98.5% SOC (2amps taper current for 130AH AGM for example)

If I leave it on float for another 1hour+ the current tapers down to 0.5%. Is this full 100% charge or not?

Some say you need to taper down to 0.5% at absorption voltage.

Dying to know the answer, cheers

current to .5% ? or do you mean .5amps, if so then that could be a float current, but the voltage is typically slightly below absorb voltage you can still be charging at several amps at float without any problem.

Yes 5%.

It only tapers down to 5% an hour + later while on float. Does this mean 100% full charge?

Depends on the spec of the cells/battery any really good battery/cell provides information on what the float/trickle current is, at "full" charge (100%). if there is a manual available and assuming it has the details then you would be able to find out, for my battery pack for instance it's 1900AH it's under 2.0A when on float and truly at > 99.9% or = 100%.
