G'day from Loomberah

Say g'day and tell us a little bit about yourself if you wish. If you have a wind or solar power system, big or small; flaunt its specs here!

Thanks Peter. EM has changed a lot since the forum started, but job outsourcing to India isn't something I ever imagined happening... I'm not sure what the future holds for the forum, but I'm sure long time members with lots of knowledge can help still noobies out.

That wouldn't surprise me at all, with the big staff changes going on I suspect there isn't a lot of interest in the forum anymore, which is rather disappointing.

Well, in a way we've all been a part of the exciting initial growth of solar power. Perhaps what started out as small stand alone systems in rural areas and expanded into grid connected systems in cities , might now trend on to stand alone/off grid in cities. I'd get a certain amount of satisfaction out, of that even if the power industry would not :D

Jules
Primary system: .8KW Trina panels; Plasmatronics PL40; 1,000Ah VRLA 12X2V battery bank; 1.7KW Selectronic inverter. Off grid for 30 years.

Spares; 5 x 12V, 1,000 Ah batteries plus a couple of regulators

You could even suggest that our silly ramblings, may have made the installation of Solar - a less troubling event..
Simply because there were folk that were totally independent , and able to chat openly..!

Hmm..... I'm doing an SPS in the middle of town in a few weeks, the grid might and I stress might, be used as a generator if it's actually required which based on the use and time of year. 8-)

Not sure why I haven't posted on this forum for a couple of years; might be something to do with a computer crash around that time.

Very disappointed to see you go as moderator, Gordon, but really hope you will continue to contribute; my "virtual tracker" array was inspired by you and is working from dawn to dusk every day. :D It would be a shame to see the Forum "fizzle out", but if it does that will only be a further reflection of the quality of your stewardship, as you and the forum have done a great job and helped over 5000 members and countless others over the last decade or so.

The new moderator doesn't seem to have introduced himself, contributed anything, or done much if the number of off topic posts around the place are anything to go by (including the previous one in this thread, which I assume was put here accidentally). Looks like EM are cutting costs and aren't really looking for value...

G'day Quokka2, great to hear your VT is working well :)

I really don't know what the future of the Forum is, since EM/Flex has basically closed down AFAIK. The dude from Hyderabad who took over from me appears to have done minimal work, as there is a huge queue of new posts that have not been approved, along with a stack of spam.
I understand that EM is in the process of being wound up by accountants, but whether it is to be sold or shut down completely, I have no idea.

If I ever find out (I have asked) I'll post here.

Shame they can't release the forum to be run by others (Gordon), and hosted under a different name to keep the valuable content that has built up over the years.

Just take the content, replace all the EM stuff, and host it under a different domain.
