Solar power in Australia

Postby Inhis » Mon Jun 30, 2014 4:11 am

Hi guys,

Currently I am living in Europe but with my wife we are thinking about Australia. Besides my normal job I am interested in solar power. I will be building a small off-greed to get all the experience I need to build something bigger. After that I would like to build 30kw on-greed. So I thought why not to try it in Australia. Therefor I have few quest, hopefully you will be able to give me answers.
1. I was trying to find how much money you can get for 1kwh but all the information was not clean enough. Can someone tell me what is the sell rate for solar power?
2. Do you need to play any duty for panels and inverters from China?
3. What qualification do you need to build 30kw on-greed solar plant?
4. Do you think such an investment is worth in Australia?

Thanks,
Pawel

Ignoring all other requirements the very first one you would require is being a licensed A grade electrician, there are no exceptions.
SPS Standalone Power System/Hybrid specialist - Store the Sun!
SELECTRONIC SPMC482-AU, 8.2kW's of Arrays
Selectronic Certified AC-Coupled Fronius 8.2kW Inverter

In 2014..... 8c
2. Do you need to play PAY any duty for panels and inverters from China?

Normal taxes, GST
3. What qualification do you need to build 30kw on-greed GRID solar plant?

Way too many
4. Do you think such an investment is worth IT in Australia?

Ummm.....
investment in what... investment in being qualified to be able to install PV systems... NO
Investment in PV... well, reducing or eliminating electricity bills is good.
Investment in a 30kW PV system... well, if you have lots of money and are happy to be paid 8c per kWH..
Throughout most of Australia, power authorities, seem to have settled on a limit of 5kW for normal domestic installations .. MORE than that and they expect special approvals..
Bottom line... they really don't want lots of pv generators, as it affects their ultimate profitability ...

I can only think that the chances of coming to Australia, to make a fortune installing PV and selling power is ZERO..

and, that does not take into consideration, the general requirements to gain a visa to come to Australia..
One wonders why it is so hard for even a Spouse of an Australian to come here with their partner..

Well there would be no problem with getting visa because I am a web developer - it makes so easy to find a new job. I was going to progress in new area but I guess Australia is not the best place for photovoltaic business (that 8c). I can build 30kw for about 35k AUD but I would need like 10 years to get it back with that 8c rate. Oh well, at least now I know. Thanks for your info!
