I believe that the time is right to push for a gross Tariff

Financial support for wind and solar power in Australia - rebates, grants and feed in tariffs - can be a nightmare in navigating all the rules and regulations. Ask your questions and view related information here.

Things could be much worse, for example in Spain this is being considered:

"Spain clean energy bill strikes at heart of rooftop solar market
By Bloomberg New Energy Finance on 7 August 2013

A proposal by Spain to make consumers pay for the clean power they generate and use themselves has roiled the industry. The draft bill is currently being reviewed by the country’s energy regulator CNE, which accepted feedback until 30 July.

The unprecedented move will make self-generated solar power dearer than electricity from the grid. “The decree is an attack to market freedom that aims to prevent people from competing with established utilities. It’s like if they charged you when you turn off electric heaters and use a wood stove,” said Jose Donoso, managing director of Spain’s solar lobby group UNEF.

The new fee applies to all plants of 100 kW or less..."

That's just rude . If there was ever a time to tell someone to take a long walk that would be it and drop off the grid, what a cheek. How corrupt is that. :x

Well, the poor dears do have operating costs and they have to pay a fee to the distributors to carry that power from one house to the next.

(sorry, the devil's advocate got in my head)

Makes you wonder how much they change in Spain if you go off grid. I am sure they will be trying to sting them here as well.
But that is plain rude.

Makes me think can the locals in Spain Band together to create a local 100kW system. Or have the power companies already got that covered.

I'm presently on 1:1 FIT for however long that lasts in Tasmania so it's not an issue for me personally at this stage.

But if the house is empty all day then, unless you are wasteful of electricity in the first place, most production is going to be exported to the grid unless it's a very small system. Even when I had just a 1kW system, 60% of production was being exported and that was with a heated aquarium with lights running all day. Without that, the export would have been even higher.

Part of the reason why I never take up any of the rebates or government intensives on anything I purchase.

It doesn't matter if its PV, Water tank or anything. As soon as they have anything to do with it your product is effectively registered and some what under there control in the future.

Lay low and be 100% self sufficient.

I DO wonder just how that will work.. The connection is assigned to a retailer of YOUR choice..
If THEY prohibit going Off-Grid, then which retailer applies the fees/fine..
or, will it be the Govt. through an agency, that claims the money... demands the money..

It is not like Water/Sewerage.... there is virtually only one supplier..

I am happy to only receive feed in tariff for the excess generated but am not happy now that this payment is dropping (9.8c kWh to 7.6c kWh) while the electicity charges are increasing. Somewhere in my maths background this only produces higher profit for the electricity supplier.

Get a hybrid (for SA call it an off-grid system) They don't like batteries on High FIT's and you will loose them otherwise. The system stores power for you to use later................... While a high price initially to install. At least you get control of when you might buy power and therefore the price you pay or if you buy power at all. 8-)

What ever came of this proposal.. We DO hope that they saw reason..

I do get cynical when I see the name BLOOMBERG in any way linked to the proposal.. ;)
