Engine oil recycling

Postby MichaelB » Mon Nov 09, 2009 3:06 pm

While many people would be aware that old engine oil should be recycled, up to 100 million litres of the stuff is improperly disposed of each year in Australia alone, according to the Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts.

While it takes 42 gallons of crude oil to produce a half gallon of new oil suitable for use in car engines, it only takes one gallon of old oil to achieve the same.

For further information on used oil and to find your nearest used oil collection facility, contact oilrecycling@environment.gov.au or call 1800 982 006
