Thanks all, I have tracked down the solar installer and they are coming out tomorrow. I have spoken to both him and my energy company and I now have a better handle on how it works. The solar guy will check it all out tomorrow and discuss.
Cheers Corina

I would strongly urge you to get audit insurance with that one!

Hi Corina, hope you have success in getting the other string working too. Please let me know output on a good day with both working. Mine has been producing around 30-32 kWhs/day on the warm sunny days recently.
Re your highish consumption,I noticed from your photo that there appears to be an evaporative air-con unit on your roof too. Although I do not have one,I know they use an electric pump to recirculate water for evaporative cooling, was this switched off too while you were away ? Although I cannot imagine just the pump being responsible for that much power unless the whole thing was running while you were gone.
Cheers, Gerard

Hello,
Gerard the evaporative cooling uses 1.8kw for 6 hours use ( I am getting good at this!) we actually very rarely use it, the original 1/2 of the house does not heat up very much and the back half is quite open and we get an afternoon sea breeze (most days). I have however made a discovery regarding the power while we were away, the power company had not credited me with the power we had imported to the grid I was originally told we must have used all we had generated. After I spoke to the again regarding the way it works it turns out it was just never read. But good news it will be read in three months time!
The second string is now up and running as of around 1.30 this afternoon and we have had our best producing day so far.
So thanks for all your help, I do think that it would be helpful if there was some reading material on how the feed in works as I presumed that as we had a smart meter it was electronically read, but apparently that is not always the case and it is up to the man coming around to look at what the feed in is.
