Aurora 6kW inverter data

Postby sbturbo » Tue Dec 24, 2013 6:19 pm

Hey guys,
I have tried some research but have become very confused.
I have an Aurora 6kW inverter. I want to be able to monitor its performance on my computer. I dont need to do anything more than a daily download of data from the inverter.
I believe that the easiest method for me is via the RS485-usb adapter and plug it into the computer at the end of the day. Does the output data only transfer for the time the inverter is connected to the computer or is it set up to manually store daily or weekly data so it is 'dumped' to the computer whenever it is connected?
I can easily get the adapter and run the Aurora Communicator software, im just not sure on some of the tech behind the data storage and download to the computer.
Can anyone give me a simple run-down of how this goes?
And are there any potential methods of using an IPad instead of a laptop?
much appreciated,
Simon

.
Sbturbo.. I see that you never attracted any help..
How have you progressed..

One thought would be that if you have no luck here, then you could reask the question on Whirlpool Forums, as there are Many installers there, fighting to impress.. :D .

Good luck.. ;)

The Aurora has a interesting monitoring capabilities. If you have programming sharps you can probably knock up a comms/datalogger program yourself:

Try this google: power one aurora communications
you will find some very interesting stuff

Aurora comms protocol (including sample code):

http://search.cpan.org/~freman/Device-Inverter-Aurora-0.05/lib/Device/Inverter/Aurora.pm

If you are really sharp you could tweak a jailbroken iPad into a data logger
(My next-ish project is to develop my Outback Solar monitoring software to work on an iPad)

Look at "PVOutput.org" and the various units out there using that site for monitoring and logging, it is certainly being used for doing what you want to do, with Power One / Aurora GCI's.
