Is there anyone out there to help?

Postby solanewbie » Mon Jan 02, 2012 11:16 am

Hi, we have had our Solar since May 2011. We had a power outage yesterday 1/1/2012 at lunch time that lasted an hour. We looked at our Solar display at 8pm and realised that there was a red LED and a telephone symbol. We have very little information regarding troubleshooting. Cant locate who to call and of course its now a public holiday. We have turned off the unit, following the shutdown procedure printed on the system but now what?. Tried turning it back on now but still showing the same display- the words are all in German but we think it keeps trying to reset but cant. Have sent an email to the manufacturer but think thats in Germany, tried ringing Energy Matters but closed till Tuesday. Who should I be calling? :|

You might like to give us a few more details of your system, such as inverter brand and model for starters.

Also a general location might help too.

Thanks for the reply,
We are in Adelaide, the system is a SUNNY BOY SMA SB3000HF-30 with13 REC235PE-BLK.
We have had power outages before with no effect on our system when the power has some back on. It was just by chance that we checked the display and saw the red LED and realised that there was a problem. The limited troubleshooting says to ring the installer when the phone icon is displayed. Is this Energy Matters or the actual installer who did the work? I'm really disappointed that after hours there is no help. It has now been nearly 2 days where the system has been out of action. We tried to do a shutdown and restart but theres no change to the display.

Have you tried selecting English language on the display to determine what it is saying?
I'm told Englisch is German for English, but it may be EN... so scroll around until you find something like that that and select it. Do you have a user manual for the inverter? That should have the language selection instructions.

Hi
Sounds easy to do this but unfortunately after reading the documentation I think this is something the installer should have done before they left. The booklet says that that the country code and language is set in the "Quick Module" or communication module prior to to connection to the inverter. I believe it is behind the cover of the inverter and a jumper is needed to set the language.
Again, if this is the case I am disappointed as it should have been done as part of the instal. Didnt even realise we would need to read that part of the screen, it does seem to be going through a self test and reset but to no avail, still not working correctly and red led on and phone symbol displayed. I really now just want to know if this is something that Energy Matters will followup for me even if it is tomorrow in working hours or do I have to find the original installer? Very frustrating.

I'll make sure the right people know about it tomorrow, but ring EM as well. The installer will be contacted if needed to get this sorted out.
