Solar companies avoiding the Do Not Call Register

Postby Gordon-Loomberah » Tue Jan 17, 2017 2:50 pm

I've heard that a number of people have received calls from overseas call centres, trying to sell them PV systems to be installed by a company in Australia. This is clearly a breach of the law regarding the Do Not Call Register, so I wonder just how widespread it is?

Has anyone had one of these calls, or know someone who has received one?

Yes, we had more than 20 calls last year, when we mention we are on the do not call register they hang up.

I have a small PBX they simply don't go any further, for public holidays I have some interesting messages that get played and there's a "merry go round" menu system associated, designed to never get to the end 8-)

I have had dozens and maybe over 100 calls from solar company telemarketers.
I have complained numerous times to the Do Not Call Register. I give them all the details of the calls including the Australian solar companies behind the calls. They do nothing. Their website says they have warned one company. What a joke. The DNCR is a toothless tiger wasting tax payer's money.
I am put off solar panels as there are a lot of shonky operators in the industry.
The solar industry should have an industry association membership and anyone who breeches the DNCR should be expelled from the association.

Wow Scott, that's a lot, I have only ever had one SMS from a solar company wanting to do quotes, they were claiming to be "Australia's number 1 Solar company", but I have no idea who they were. I have no interest in finding out, or replying to their SMS with "SUN" because I already have solar power.

Have you had many repeat offenders that wont take no for an answer?

No ,not for solar but we do get calls form the so called technical department of telstra (vie india) and were on the do not call register...Maybe my own fault but I cant help myself when I hear the person on the other end say they have been getting error messages from my computer but not to worry they here to help fix this ,so after acting like a goose when told to press this than that and getting them to start all over again after a few minutes I remark ,reaaaaly cant you people think of something original rather than this old scam your trying to pull. You F#####g old B#####d and hang up was the last call that Ive had.... I know I know too much time on my hands but it gives me a laugh....

 I've been known to utter the occasional naughty word to those scammers too, and haven't had a call from them for some time.

:D Perhaps I'm overthinking this but while I do have a go at them too, some part of me thinks that they are probably underpaid, working in bad conditions somewhere outside Aus., and struggling to survive. Could be wrong of course ... they might be rich bastards at play.
