"Green" fridge labelled as fraudulent

An article in today's SMH, it seems some companies will do anything to increase profits from consumers trying to buy lower energy consuming goods...

Yeh, was a bit of a shock to read this. I'd expect it from Glorious Lizard Super Lucky Fridges, not from a big name like LG. This is likely going to do them some serious damage among the green-leaning and off-gridders.

Speaking of off-grid and refrigeration, EM has some kick butt fridges arriving soon, real energy sippers.. stay tuned. I had pretty much given up on getting a "real" fridge until I saw these, can't wait :).

Despite all their advertising, I have never considered LG to have much of a reputation.
This almost beggars belief though - shouldn't they be charged with fraud, not just have to compensate their customers?!

Keep us informed MichaelB; I am close to making a refrigeration decision!

When you realise that LG comes from the name of Lucky Goldstar, then things start to become a little bit clearer.

What appalling behaviour. LG should be ashamed of themselves.

As a backup, perhaps the standard test should be modified to somehow eliminate the possibility of such deceptive practices being used?

We have a small shipment of Sundanzers arriving from the USA in the next couple of weeks:

http://www.energymatters.com.au/specials/sundanzer.php

These DC refrigerator/freezers use as little as 114 Watt-hrs/ 9.6 AH a day @ 32C ambient temperature while in refrigerator mode! That consumption is for for the 50 litre model, but the performance of the larger models looks pretty darned good too.
